On May 13, 2025, the CIDC-Sensika Disinformation Observatory hosted a roundtable in Sofia focused on combatting AI-driven disinformation. The event gathered leaders from government, academia, journalism, and civil society at the Central Military Club, supported by the Association of the Officers in the Reserve “Atlantic” (AORA), to explore emerging threats and collaborative responses.
The roundtable highlighted the growing importance of the partnership between the Center for Information, Democracy and Citizenship (CIDC) at the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) and Sensika Technologies. Their joint initiative, the CIDC-Sensika Disinformation Observatory, uses advanced AI to monitor, analyze, and interpret disinformation campaigns across languages and regions.
Dr. Margee Ensign, President of AUBG, and Konstantin Christoff, CEO of Sensika, emphasized the societal impact of misinformation. “We’re living in a time when many decisions are based on unreliable data,” Christoff stated. “Our partnership brings together technological capability and academic insight to tackle this challenge effectively.”
Sensika’s senior disinformation analyst and the Executive Director of CIDC presented the methodology behind their latest research, demonstrating how AI has enhanced their capacity for combatting AI-driven disinformation. They showcased real-time tools for detecting narratives and influence campaigns, while also addressing threats like large language model (LLM) poisoning and the psychological tactics used in disinformation strategies.
Investigative journalist Christo Grozev highlighted how disinformation exploits societal vulnerabilities and divides public opinion. Georgi Stoytchev from the Open Society Institute stressed the importance of clear, proactive government communication to counter harmful narratives.
The event introduced the ABF-funded CoDE project, an initiative designed to strengthen resilience through cooperation between academic institutions and civil society. Young analysts from Sofia University shared case studies, underlining the Observatory’s commitment to engaging the next generation of researchers.
Dr. Ensign captured the urgency of the effort: “If we can’t agree on what the truth is, we lose the foundation of society.”
At Sensika, we are committed to developing technology that informs, empowers, and protects against digital manipulation.
